What If There Is More Power?

“So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.” (Zechariah 4:6)

The Holy Spirit has been on my mind a lot lately. In fact, I think the Holy Spirit is prompting me to think about the Holy Spirit! Based on my understanding of the Spirit, I think of Him as someone who lives within me, someone who intercedes for me in prayer, someone who comforts, guides, anoints, and is the power of God. But I can’t say I am typically Holy-Spirit driven. Recently, I have had several experiences where the Holy Spirit was at the forefront – those times when you know that you know that you know it is Him moving, and has caused me to want more of this power.

Back in June, Becky, our friend Arlene and I were at Overlake Church to hear Nick Vujicic speak. For those who don’t know, he is the young Australian man who was born with tetra-amelia syndrome, a rare disorder characterized by the absence of all four limbs. He is an evangelist and motivational speaker – and many souls have come to Christ through his ministry. What struck me about him is he speaks with simplicity, truth and boldness. He does not tell stories to make you feel sorry for him, nor does he emotionally manipulate – which we have all seen before. Hundreds of people came pouring down the aisles to make a decision for Christ on that Sunday – and during the time I felt a surge of warmth as if I had just stepped into a sauna. Along with tears and prayer, I knew without a doubt the Holy Spirit was moving in the room.

Another such moment was on my trip to Israel this Summer. We were at Ein Gedi and were asked to pair off and pray for each other. A woman in my group was praying for me and the future of a relationship, or not, and in the middle of the prayer broke out into a beautiful song of what sounded to me like Hebrew. She did not speak Hebrew, but I knew it was the gift of tongues. At the time, I felt a rush of power through my body, a lightness of being that I had not experienced before. I don’t know if this means I will be married, or remain single, but she told me with boldness, “I don’t know what the Lord said, but I know He has a strong Word for you, I just know.” And with that, she burst into tears.

Now, I have always been a bit skeptical of those who seem too Holy Spirit-driven, or have a Word from the Lord, or get a little too high on the Spirit. Perhaps that is because I was afraid, or didn’t understand it, or had seen abuse. But nowadays, I feel more convicted that we absolutely need the Holy Spirit daily, and I ask, how would my faith walk be different if I had more of the Holy Spirit involved in all things? What would happen if I were more in-tune with the Spirit, and acted on more promptings to talk to people, pray for people, worship with abandon, move out in faith and take more risks asking the Holy Spirit to lead? How would more reliance upon the Holy Spirit change your faith walk?

This Friday evening, we are having a Prayer Walk on the Church Property. I think it is absolutely necessary for us to be involved in anointing this property that God has given us, to ask for a hedge of protection around it, to let it be a light and magnet to those in the neighborhood because it is God’s church. If you are able to attend, you will not regret being a part of the power of the Holy Spirit moving when we come together in prayer. In fact, the past Prayer meetings that I have attended, we all agreed that the Holy Spirit was present and moving in power and might that none of us could do without Him. I implore you to come to these meetings and experience God in new ways through His Spirit. You need it. Creekside needs it. The World needs it.
