Seek Out Life

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)

Reading through the Old Testament can get exhausting pretty quickly because it can feel like a lot of death. It’s not easy to read through passages about plague and the striking down of thousands of unfaithful people. It’s uncomfortable to read through the details of proper butchering of animals and not get bogged down in the feeling of loss and grief.

But our response must always be to seek out the life that is given, the people who are saved and the futures that are possible because of the sacrifice.

The Enemy always tries to trick us into thinking it’s all despair and doom and gloom and nothing will ever be good. We read about the slaughter of not only animals but people and cannot justify a loving God and such malady. But our job has never been to justify God but to be justified into a new life through him and with Him.

When God set in motion the sacrificial system He knew it would end with Christ on the cross and before that final sacrifice Jesus reminded us that he “had come so that you might have life and have it to the full.” And that it was the Enemy who came to kill and steal and destroy. (John 10:10)

So before you give up on the characteristics of God that are a little harder to swallow, think about just what it is you’re seeking out. Are you seeking out death or are you seeking out life? The more you seek out death the more the Enemy will show you his own work and try pass it off as God’s. The more you seek out life the more abundantly you will find it. Because the God of the Universe has chosen to dwell among us, giving us life and hoping we seek it out.

Grace and Peace and Life for this journey,
Ali
