Missions Update
Vienna Lucas is back from Guatemala and will be sharing stories from her experience this Sunday, March 14. Villa Linda has made a lot of progress since Vienna visited two years ago. Come hear about the Lord’s faithfulness.
The latest pictures and update from John and Tanzi Mitchell (YWAM, Nicaragua) have been posted on the Creekside website. Pray for God’s blessing as the students and staff share the good news about Jesus with their community.
TOMS SHOES - One for One
In May 2006 an American traveler, Blake Mycoskie, befriended children in Argentina and found they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created TOMS Shoes, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. ONE FOR ONE. Blake returned to Argentina with a group of family, friends and staff later that year with 10,000 pairs of shoes made possible by caring TOMS customers. As of December 2009, TOMS has given over 400,000 pairs of shoes to children in need. What can you do?
- Come to a TOMS SHOE PARTY! Saturday, March 20 - Drop in anytime between 1:00-4:00 PM @ Thom & Lynne Allison’s Home (365 West Lake Sammamish Parkway, Bellevue). See a video about TOMS, buy a pair (or two) of shoes and eat, drink & have fun!
- Go to www.toms.com to find out more about this movement and buy some shoes!
- Call/email your order to me kim.hjelm@gmail.com and I will take care of it!
More information and samples will be available in the Welcome area on Sunday morning.
Creekside at the Mariners
Save the Date! Join us as a group heads for the M's vs. the Los Angeles Angels game on Saturday, June 5, at 1:10 PM. Tickets will go on sale soon!!
Exchange Student Homes Needed
Reach the world right here at home!
Education First’s Educational Homestay Program (EHP) is bringing students from France and Spain to the Redmond area again this summer. EHP is currently looking for loving, caring homes on the Eastside and would love the Christian community to become a meaningful part of these 9th-12th grade students’ lives.
Below is some additional information on this summer’s program:
- The students will be visiting from July 1-27 and July 8 - August 3.
- The students will be under the supervision of EF Program staff from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (M-F), attending language classes in the morning and participating in a variety of organized educational activities and field trips.
- Host Families are asked to provide a bed, meals and transportation to and from Redmond Junior High or the drop-off point from which students will be transported to their classes and field trips.
If you are interested in finding out more, please contact Jan Sproul at 425-681-9142 or jssproul@comcast.net
July Mission Trip to the DR
We are planning an inter-generational trip to the Dominican Republic. We are excited to be able to go serve alongside of Brandon Bleek and Children of the Nation this summer. Our desire is to go learn, serve others, and support the long-term ministry of COTN in the DR. You can get more information on COTN and their "Venture Programs" at www.cotni.org.
- Informational Meeting: Sunday, March 28 after the service in the Jr High Discipleship wing (by the kid's pod).
- Where are we going? Barahona, Dominican Republic. A city on the south coast, about four hours west of Santo Domingo. We will primarily be serving those living in a nearby Haitian batay.
- What will we be doing? Our projects will depend somewhat on the gifts, skills and talents of our team. There will be construction and maintenance projects (including working with locals to finish the floors that Keith Ferrin raised money for last year) and other projects may include sports camps, arts and crafts, music programs, medical assistance, etc. We'll be in a small village, so whatever we do, there will be a lot of interaction with the locals.
- Dates: July 15-23
- Estimated costs: $1600-1700. Final cost will depend on airfare. This price is all-inclusive, except meals on travel days. Creekside typically provides opportunities to fund-raise half of your costs and will help you raise the other half.
- Who can come: Anyone ages 6 and up who meet the application qualifications of COTN. Students under the age of 16 must participate with at least one parent.
- How to register: $100 per person deposit and register with Stacey (staceyp@ecreekside.com).
COMING UP
March Can Madness
March Can Madness, a fun, competitive food drive for Hopelink, is underway. Ben Wobker of Redmond Physical Therapy came up with the idea of a canned food collection using "brackets," similar to college basketball's March Madness. The tournament started with 16 businesses, which will vie to see which teams can collect the most food for Hopelink.
Our very own Jeff Hancock’s family bakery - Hancock’s Bakery is participating and stomped the competition in the first round!!
Businesses with the greatest amount of food donations will advance to the next bracket. Food will be weighed each Friday of the tournament - March 5, 12, 19, 26 - at the Hopelink Redmond Food Bank.
If you 'can' bring some cans to Hancock Bakery (16150 NE 85th St Ste 105, Redmond - across from the Post Office) today or early Friday. And if they make it to the next round - keep them coming!!
Jr High All-Nighter!
Friday, March 12 to Saturday March 13. 7:00 PM-10:00 AM
We're joining the Northlake Young Life clubs for an all-nighter full of non-stop activities, craziness, food, and a few hundred of your closest friends :-). Get a flyer from Stacey or Kirby. $40. Sign up ASAP and reserve your spot in the van today!! Creekside students will be traveling together, attending events together and will be crashing at the same house. (StaceyP@ecreekside.com)
