Ordinary People Living The Extraordinary Way of Jesus

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him. Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Mark 1:17; 2:14; 8:34; 10:21

Jesus came to a broken world and announced that the Kingdom of God was at hand. He shared with ordinary people what this Kingdom looks like. He modeled how to live this life he described as “more and better life than they could ever imagine.” (John 10:10). He invited — and is still inviting — ordinary people to follow him, to learn this Kingdom way of life and to join him in the restoration of the broken places in the world.

Do you feel ordinary? Great, you are perfect for the job of Jesus follower — ordinary people living the extraordinary way of Jesus. Jesus sees in our ordinariness, the extraordinary that we can become when we live the life with him that we were intended to live in him. A life marked by love, by eyes that see the world the way he sees it, by an authenticity a transparency and a reflective spirit that says “I am not in control of most things, but I trust deeply in the one who is and who loves me deeply.” Lives seeking to follow Jesus inward toward that love, outward toward the world he died for and together in a fellowship of believers. At Creekside we are Ordinary People Living The Extraordinary Way of Jesus.

We worship in an ordinary building with extraordinary opportunities. What are the opportunities? What does God want us to do here as we live in his extraordinary way?

Each of us needs to be asking, seeking, discerning, praying — is this the place God wants us to be? What is God calling us to here in our ordinary building, filled with Ordinary people who seek to become like the extraordinary one we follow. Here is a prayer sheet that you might find helpful in your discernment process.

Peace, hope and love,

Doug
