Loved in His Promises

“God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” (Numbers 23:19 NIV)

Have you felt that God made you a promise? I’m talking like a son for Abraham and Sarah or a king for Israel, or the best promise, Jesus for all mankind. Well, maybe not quite that level, but something that you heard God say will come to pass that seems a bit (or a lot) impossible?

I was thinking about how God has been moving throughout my life, and of all the things that I was sure were going to happen because I’d felt him say so. Lots of times they didn’t happen the way I thought it would, but always much better than I had hoped. Other times, there were things I thought were going to happen, and then they didn’t, with an emphatic no. Do you still wait for those? Or do you focus on the promises fulfilled?

The best example in my life right now of His specific promise coming to fruition is my being back in school. I’m writing this FYI article a bit late as I’m in the throes of massive amounts of schoolwork. But knowing that I’ve walked into something that He orchestrated makes it less overwhelming.

There are many more examples as I think back to stories I’ve heard this past year. As a church, we knew we would have a new pastor, no matter how long it took. I’ve heard your stories and my friends’ stories of how they’d felt God say something would happen, and then it came to pass: new babies, new jobs, new careers, new houses—even healing. Sharing these stories of God fulfilling his promises is such a faith builder!

God moves. God speaks. God acts and delivers on His promises. Let that sink in. The God of the universe does that for you and for me.

Be encouraged because you are loved beyond measure.
